Home Security is not insurance

One of the most common misconceptions about a home security system is that it will insure your home isn’t burglarized and that the security company will compensate you for stolen items. This is incorrect. Home security systems are simply deterrants and can prevent you from being burglarized.

If in fact you do have things have items stolen from you the security company will most likely not compensate you in any way. All companies define their responsibility differently. If the alarm system malfunctions then it is possible to seek compensation, but the company will only compensate you if they deem the malfunction is their fault. It is important to keep in mind that even if you have a security system you are not safe from burglary.
