March through the French Quarter for public housing

"Save our bricks, because we need our bricks to have somewhere to stay!"

Patricia St. Thomas,
Resident of Lafitte Housing Development

What: March through the French Quarter
When: Saturday, June 24th, 3pm (meet at 2:30pm)
Where:
*Updated
Corner of Basin St. and Bienville*, by the Iberville Housing Development, march to Washington Artillery Park, which is across Decatur St. from Jackson Square
Why: Continuing the challenge to affluent neighborhoods of New Orleans to wake up and smell the coffee, public housing residents and their community supporters will march through the French Quarter to demand the reopening of public housing.

The Right of Return is Everyone's Right!

The Federal government wants to keep African American, working class from returning to the city, so the government has illegally fenced off and shuttered our public housing. We must reopen public housing to enforce the Right of Return for everyone.

Residents and public housing and their supporters are going to take this struggle to the wealthy neighborhood of the French Quarter, where the economic driving force of New Orleans, our tourism industry, is centrally located.

We say this to the city, state and federal government: if you want our workers back, you must provide affordable housing!

Among the developments HUD has proposed to demolish is the Lafitte Housing Development, home to over 800 families. The Lafitte Development received no more than 12 inches of water, yet remains shuttered today with expensive steel windows and doors.

The reopening of public housing is important to our city, as public housing provides affordable housing for its residents, and helps drive down the costs of rent in our city for everyone.

Join us in this historic struggle to reopen public housing! March through the French Quarter and demand affordable housing for everyone!
