A Small Revolution

Mike Howell and I attended the Bring Back New Orleans housing subcommittee meeting yesterday, and witnessed and participated in a small revolution there, sparked by African Americans in attendance.

The co-chairs of this subcommittee are Lauren Anderson and Mtumishi
St.Julien, who is the city's financial director. This is a subcommittee of Canizaro's and Ray Mannings' Committee on City Planning.

From on high, Canizaro sent their list of principles approved by his
committee, and asked that the subcommittee take a look at them and possibly approve them.

I didn't write them down in detail, but one of them had something to do with endorsing a democratic process in rebuilding New Orleans, then another had to do with endorsing Canizaro's and the federal government's plan to build mixed income housing, in place of public housing, only they had it worded so it sounded real pretty, something about reducing poverty. The net affect of course would be to reduce the numbers of low wage workers who can afford to live in the city.  Most at the meeting saw through this.

The Bush Administration will be gone and disgraced by Christmas 2006

Dare to dream, make it so!
